New Hampshire: First State Bitcoin Reserve
New Hampshire has become the first US state to establish a Bitcoin reserve, a move that positions it ahead of federal efforts. The legislation, HB 302, allows the state to allocate up to 5% of its public funds to precious metals and digital assets, including Bitcoin. This proactive approach contrasts with stalled similar bills in states like Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania, as well as a withdrawn bill in Florida. Proponents argue that a Bitcoin reserve acts as a hedge against inflation and financial instability, a position long held by Bitcoin enthusiasts advocating for both state and federal cryptocurrency accumulation. The bill’s passage highlights New Hampshire’s commitment to innovative financial solutions. While the Trump administration proposed a government-owned Bitcoin reserve, it lacked a commitment to further purchases. New Hampshire’s initiative differs by actively investing in Bitcoin, potentially stabilizing the economy and boosting the cryptocurrency’s value. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $95,100, aiming to solidify support for a potential rise to $100,000.
