Cardano’s ADA Redemption Under Independent Audit

Amidst controversy surrounding unclaimed ADA vouchers, Cardano has initiated an independent audit of its long-running redemption program. Input Output Global (IOG), one of Cardano’s founding entities, has engaged the global law firm McDermott Will & Emery (MW&E) and the audit firm BDO to conduct a thorough forensic review. This follows allegations that hundreds of millions of unclaimed ADA were improperly diverted in 2021. The audit aims to create a definitive historical ledger of all presale tokens, detailing their status and current location. Emurgo, another founding entity, supports the audit and emphasizes that the vast majority of vouchers have been redeemed, while acknowledging community concerns. The Cardano Foundation also welcomes the audit. The controversy was fueled by NFT artist Masato Alexander’s accusations against IOG founder Charles Hoskinson of misappropriating ADA using genesis keys during the Allegra hard fork. Hoskinson vehemently denies these claims. While the audit’s completion date remains unspecified, both firms have been instructed to expedite the process. The audit will involve on-chain analytics and open-source intelligence to trace token flows, with a specialist blockchain analytics firm to be added soon. The audit’s findings will be publicly released, aiming to resolve the ongoing dispute and provide transparency to the Cardano community. At the time of the report, ADA traded at $0.727. The audit is a significant step toward addressing community concerns and restoring trust in Cardano’s handling of its presale tokens.
