Strategy’s Bitcoin Binge Continues with $1 Billion Purchase
Strategy, a treasury company, continues its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy, recently making one of its largest purchases of 2025. Just a week after announcing a $1.44 billion USD reserve intended to navigate short-term volatility, the firm acquired 10,624 BTC at an average price of $90,615 per token, totaling $962.7 million. This significant acquisition, funded by sales of STRD and MSTR at-the-market (ATM) stock offerings between December 1st and 7th, demonstrates that its USD reserve is not hindering its Bitcoin hoarding efforts.
Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 660,624 BTC, acquired at an average cost basis of $74,696 per coin, representing a total investment of $49.35 billion. At current market prices, these holdings are valued at approximately $59.68 billion, indicating a substantial profit of nearly 21% for the company. This strategy highlights a long-term bullish outlook on Bitcoin, positioning the firm to benefit from potential appreciation.
In contrast to Strategy’s accumulation, the broader market for US Bitcoin spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) has experienced recent struggles. Spot ETFs allow investors to gain indirect exposure to Bitcoin without managing the underlying cryptocurrency directly, offering a benefit of simplified investment. However, these funds have primarily faced net outflows since mid-October, reflecting lingering pessimism in the market despite a brief positive netflow in late November. The latest week again saw modest net outflows of about $87.8 million, indicating continued investor caution. While Bitcoin’s price briefly surpassed $92,000, it has since pulled back, trading around $89,900, underscoring the asset’s inherent volatility, a key risk for investors.
