Liverpool Leads UK in Crypto Investment, Openreach Survey Reveals
A new Openreach survey reveals surprising digital habits across the UK, with Liverpool topping the charts for cryptocurrency investment. 13% of Liverpudlians actively invest in and monitor cryptocurrencies, exceeding all other UK cities in the study. This highlights a significant local interest in digital assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, despite market volatility. The survey also reveals that the average Brit spends 3.5 hours online daily, with 20% exceeding five hours. Night owls dominate online activity, with 64% most active between 11 pm and 6 am, many frequenting YouTube. Regional variations are striking; Manchester leads in Instagram usage (27%), Sheffield in TikTok (32%) and daily music streaming (30%), and also boasts the highest percentage of users spending over five hours online daily (32%). The study also reveals a growing awareness of excessive screen time, with 43% of Britons feeling they waste time online, 37% worried about ‘doom-scrolling,’ and 33% desiring a reduction in screen hours. These regional disparities offer valuable insights for local initiatives and advertisers. Openreach’s deputy CEO, Katie Milligan, emphasizes the need for balance, acknowledging the high level of connectivity while highlighting the growing recognition of the importance of taking digital breaks. The study paints a picture of a highly connected Britain, increasingly aware of the need for a healthy relationship with technology.
