Altcoin Season Incoming? Experts Predict Outperformance
The cryptocurrency community is buzzing with anticipation for an “altcoin season,” a period where alternative cryptocurrencies (altcoins) significantly outperform Bitcoin. While altcoins have struggled to maintain bullish momentum recently, on-chain analytics firm Alphractal predicts a shift. Their analysis focuses on the Altcoin Dominance metric, which measures the market share of altcoins relative to Bitcoin. Two variations are considered: one excluding stablecoins and another excluding stablecoins and Ethereum. Historically, these metrics have shown strong support levels (25% for the first, 18% for the second). When these levels have been tested and subsequently rebounded, significant altcoin rallies have followed, as seen in 2020 and 2021. Currently, the Altcoin Dominance metric (excluding stablecoins) sits near 27.91%, close to its historical support level. Alphractal suggests this proximity increases the likelihood of a substantial altcoin market move in the coming months. They emphasize that this potential outperformance applies regardless of Bitcoin’s price direction. While these metrics don’t guarantee an altcoin season, they carry strong historical probability. Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, is highlighted as a key player in the altcoin market, currently valued at approximately $2,504. Alphractal’s prediction is based on historical data and technical analysis of the Altcoin Dominance metric, suggesting a potential market shift favorable to altcoins. The prediction, however, comes with the caveat that past performance is not indicative of future results, and volatility remains a key characteristic of the cryptocurrency market.
